Growing specialty crops such as fruit crops takes a different set of skills than growing row crops. Orchards require their own special machinery and fertilizing methods.
An exhibit in AgroLiquid’s IQhub museum showcases some of this kind of special machinery. The specific machinery in the specialty equipment showcase are pieces that were once commonly used to fertilize orchards.
This orchard fertilizer exhibit showcases a 1967 John Deere 2020 Orchard Tractor and a 1967 John Deere Model 80 Orchard sprayer. The vintage tractor and sprayer sit on fake turf next to two sculpted trees. Our craftsmen hung detailed replica apples on the trees to simulate an actual orchard.
At the wheel of the tractor sits a mannequin, dressed as a farmer in classic blue jeans and a collared shirt. A white picket fence encloses the display.
Today, farmers use different equipment to tend their orchards. But by introducing kids to the history of agriculture, the IQhub can help them appreciate the amazing advances agritech has made since then.
