Description
Kids’ museums often feature areas where children can role-play as veterinarians, grocery shoppers, and mechanics. Inspired by this concept, Missouri Grown, a branch of the Missouri Department of Agriculture promoting local foods, created a playful farmers market stall. Their goal was to engage children in a fun and educational way, teaching them about local foods and the farmers market experience. The kid-sized stall includes two baskets of artificial produce that children can select and weigh on a scale. Nearby, an iPad displays sample prices to help kids practice calculating costs, and panels quiz kids (and parents!) on the difference between fruits and vegetables. This interactive setup encourages learning about food origins while having fun and promotes awareness of local foods and the benefits of supporting small farmers.
