The Food Choices display challenges visitors to create a balanced meal using a magnetic plate and mix-and-match pieces with pictures of different foods. Visitors to Macomb County’s exhibit trailer can use those pieces to fill in the different food groups with their favorite foods.
The plate has sections for protein, vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates, and dairy. The different proportions of each section reflect the USDA’s MyPlate guidelines. Meanwhile, the food choices are drawn from foods that can be grown or raised in Michigan. The protein category, for instance, includes beans, beef, bacon, and two other options.
An interactive display like this one brings USDA’s MyPlate guidelines to life and introduces people to the healthy food choices they have available.
